Some people are looking for more than just a job. They’re looking for peace, purpose and a place where they can truly belong.
For Jhon, (and no, that’s not a typo, that’s how his name is spelt in his home country) life had become exhausting. Living in Kempsey, he was juggling three casual jobs just to get by. The constant pressure of unpredictable hours and moving between workplaces was taking its toll, especially in customer-facing roles that left him feeling drained and overwhelmed.
Then a friend suggested a fresh start.
With the opportunity to rent a room in Lake Macquarie through someone they knew, Jhon decided to make the move. Not long after arriving, his friends Andy and Owen — who were both working with Church 4 Life Clothing Collectors at the time — encouraged him to apply for a role with us.
That decision changed everything.
Today, Jhon works across our warehouse and donation collection team, helping collect and process items that directly support people in need locally and globally. The stability of consistent work in one supportive environment has brought a sense of calm and confidence back into his life.
Lake Macquarie feels different for Jhon too. Less stressful. More settled. A place where he can breathe.
One of the things that impacted Jhon deeply was seeing the generosity of everyday people through donated clothing and household items. Knowing that these donations help families facing difficult seasons has given him a real sense of purpose and pride in the work he does each day.
Jhon also brings something special to the warehouse team — plenty of laughter. One of his favourite things to do is try on some of the funny fancy dress items that come through donations. So, you never quite know what you’ll find when you walk into the warehouse. It could be Jhon wearing a wig, oversized glasses or a funny hat, doing his best to make the team laugh.
That light-heartedness means a lot. Jhon has a quiet way of lifting people’s spirits and bringing joy to the team, and we absolutely love that about him.
Quietly and faithfully, Jhon gets the job done — and in the process, he has found genuine friendships, belonging and a renewed sense of direction for his future.
