From her youngest years Isabel lived with domestic violence at its worst. Life was so difficult that by 12 years old she was suicidal. Fast forward to her adulthood, she believed “I was only good enough to cook, clean and be a mother.” As a person she felt she was worthless. Her only value doing things for others that they didn’t want to do for themselves.
She did the best she could and struggled through bad relationships and a partner on ICE. She had long periods as a single mum with no child support payments, often going without so her kids didn’t suffer.
Isabel has a big, generous heart, even in the midst of feeling worthless, she was always willing to share the little she had with others.
She shares “Even in my darkest days I know God was looking after me. When I felt no one cared and I was praying my hardest I came across Church 4 Life Op Shop. I found acceptance and value. They invited me to become one of them. They saw something in me I couldn’t see in myself. I am deeply thankful.”
We are thankful Jesus connected Isabel with us. As part of our Op Shop community, we have been able to help her with ongoing practical support to help her financially and provided her a tribe to be part of. As Isabel has become more than a customer to be one of our Op Shop family, we have seen her grow in confidence and realise that she is a highly valuable person with a special purpose in our world. We are super proud of Isabel!
