Easter 2019 saw Rene enjoying lunch with her friend Danielle. At that lunch she met Corinne from our office. As they chatted, they discovered that Rene was looking for a part time job while she finished her studies in Social Work and we needed a part time office assistant. It was a chance meeting, a miracle where two needs were met.
Rene brought a wealth of work experience with her and quickly spotted an opportunity for us. She set up an Internship Program through Salvos Employment Plus where we took on young men who had no work experience and offered them an Internship to teach them how to work and help them into work. We had 3 men go through the program, at the end of which we offered two a job with us. Jye turned it down, but Logan said yes.
Logan did a great job working in our warehouse for a few years before moving on to his dream job. In that time he learnt a lot about how work works and how to be a great team member. It was a privilege to be part of this chapter of growth in his life.
Rene finished her certificate at the end of 2019 and in early 2020 moved out of Newcastle to be closer to family and pursue her career in Community Service.
We are thankful to God for that Easter lunch and all the good it brought to our charity, our community and especially to Rene and Logan’s lives.
