When Chelsea moved to Lake Macquarie in late 2022 she was looking for a fresh start in life. She didn’t have a job and only knew one person in the area.
She found out our Warners Bay Op Shop was looking for volunteers so she applied and joined our team. At first Chelsea only planned to do a few hours a week but loved it so much she was soon here most days. She found friends and a community of support. When her car has trouble on the way in one day Emma popped the bonnet and used her mechanical skills to save the day and a whole bunch of money.
Shortly after Chelsea started a Sunday shift became available. Happy for the work she jumped at it. Then when Shirley left to pursue her dreams to study, Chelsea was able to get a full-time role between the op shop and work in the warehouse.
Chelsea says “I love working here. I not only made friends with staff here, but also with some of our regular customers. I have my favourites and love to chat with them every time they come in. I felt alone when I moved here but now I have a community of people and a job I love. I didn’t think volunteering would change my life so much. It was just what I needed.”
We love having Chelsea in our team. She brings a whole bunch of joy to our Warners Bay Op Shop and does an amazing job for our customers.
