You won’t meet a nicer guy than Rod, one of our collection drivers here at Church 4 Life Clothing Collectors.
“In 2019 I was looking for work and applied for a Driving job with Church 4 Life Charities, but the position had already been filled, however, while I was chatting to the girl on the phone about it, they were needing volunteers in their Sorting and Packing team.
I’d volunteered in the past while living in Adelaide and I liked it, and it would also help with my Centrelink requirements so I decided to give it a go. I don’t like just sitting around, and volunteering is a meaningful activity. I liked that it would be helping people less well off.”
Rod begun sorting and packing donations at our Boolaroo office and it was very rare to see him without a smile on his face. He has a special ability to bring happiness to a room with his helpful and engaging personality. It was clear to see that Rodney was passionate about helping out where he could.
“About 6 months later, a driving role became available and it was offered to me! I’ve always had a passion for driving and I was happy to have the position I originally wanted. The work was interesting, I was in a good team and I liked getting feedback from the community telling us it’s good what we’re doing”
It wasn’t long before we started getting compliments from our donors about the ‘really nice driver’, and we knew immediately who they were talking about… It was Rod! He has always given 110% effort while working here.
“The Charity has positively impacted my life because not only have I created good friendships with people but having regular work has helped me get a place to live. I’m thankful for that.”
Rod has created meaningful friendships with many people in the organisation. He is keen to get everyone out for a game of barefoot bowls and it has been a privilege to see him grow in skills and confidence while he has been at the charity. We are glad to have made a positive difference to his life.
