Church 4 Life

For Debra, volunteering at Church 4 Life Charities has become much more than simply helping out. It has become a place of friendship, purpose and renewal — a space where she can breathe, connect and care for herself while caring so faithfully for others.

As the full-time carer for her granddaughter, who lives with severe mental health challenges, much of Debra’s life was spent at home focused on supporting her family. While she lovingly embraced that responsibility, it could also feel isolating at times.

Then a long term friend, Lynette, encouraged her to come along and join her as a volunteer with Church 4 Life Charities.

“Why don’t you come and help us?” she suggested.

That simple invitation changed so much.

Debra first became involved back in the days of our famous Garage Sales at Boolaroo Church. Since then, Debra has volunteered as regularly as she can, always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. Over the years, she has helped sort donations, box items for distribution, prepare Hampers with Heart and sort and price clothing. No matter the task, Debra brings warmth, care and dedication to everything she does.

But what means the most to her is the sense of community she has found.

“Everyone is so friendly and kind here. I always go home with a big smile on my face!” Debra shared.

Through volunteering, Debra has built genuine friendships and found a place where she feels encouraged and valued. During the COVID lockdowns, she realised just how important volunteering had become in her life. Being unable to come into the warehouse left a real gap in her routine and wellbeing.

For Debra, volunteering is part of how she takes care of herself as a carer — and in turn, helps her care even better for her family.

As long as she is able, Debra says she will keep volunteering because it has become such an important and joyful part of her life.

We are so thankful for every person who donates and supports Church 4 Life Charities. Your generosity creates spaces where people like Debra can find connection, purpose and support while continuing to care so deeply for those they love.
